Responsibilities

  • Definition and enforcement of Mainframe system standards
  • Troubleshoot of mainframe operating system and sub-system problems
  • Provide technical support to the Mainframe applications programming staff and Operations
  • Implement and administrate of the Security policy via Top Secret
  • Implement and configure all IBM & 3rd party mainframe software
  • Manage operations projects across the sub-departments
  • Provide support for all Mainframe operational issues
  • Adhere to change control standards via the SNOW ticketing system.
  • Trouble shoot and work with the following systems BMC – MAINVIEW, CMF, ControlM-Tape, AmiOps automation, Phoenix – EJES, Innovation – FDR, DSF, FDREPORT, IAM, Chicago Soft – QwickRef, IBM - z/OS, DFSORT, Jes3+ ,IBM - z/VM, Redhat z/Linux, Z15
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to develop and implement mainframe system upgrades, patches, and fixes, adhering to change management processes and minimizing service disruptions
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system problems, coordinating with hardware and software vendors, as necessary, to resolve complex technical issues
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including standard operating procedures, configuration guidelines, and disaster recovery plans
  • Provide off-hours support for critical system issues and emergencies
  • Using z/OS, SMP/e and Mainframe JCL, System Utilities, Microsoft Excel
  • Diagnose, isolate and de-bug software problems and performs problem resolution
  • Respond to emails and attend meetings

Qualifications

  • Must have experience trouble shoot and work with the following systems BMC – MAINVIEW, CMF, ControlM-Tape, AmiOps automation, Phoenix – EJES, Innovation – FDR, DSF, FDREPORT, IAM, Chicago Soft – QwickRef
  • Must have experience IBM - z/OS, DFSORT, Jes3+
  • Must have experience IBM - z/VM and  Redhat z/Linux
  • Good working knowledge of IBM and 3rd party software that VA installs:
  • Experience with Systems Programming installing, configuring and supporting the z/OS platform software
  • Good working knowledge of IBM Hardware:
  • Strong understanding of mainframe hardware, system components, and subsystems.
  • Must have experience Using z/OS, SMP/e and Mainframe JCL, System Utilities, Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels within client organization
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment with focus on timeliness, documentation, and communications with peers and business users alike
  • Experience utilizing USS
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP, VSAM, User Exits, Sharepoint, Service Now, incident and change processes
  • Proficiency in programming languages used in mainframe environments, such as COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, or REXX
  • Experience with Project Planning, Mainframe Security, disaster recovery and business continuity
  • Programming experience in one or more of the following languages – REXX, SAS, Cobol
  • Solid understanding of mainframe networking protocols and technologies
  • Familiarity with mainframe storage systems, such as DFSMS, DFSMShsm, or DFSMSdss
  • Experience with mainframe security tools and practices, including Top Secret
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge to support one of more of the following – CA-7, CA-OPSMVS, SAS, CA-DATACOM, BMC Control products
  • Working knowledge of Syncsort, ISPF, ISPF Dialogs, REXX, Fileaid, CA-ACF2, DF/DSS,  Unix System Services
  • Ability to use MS-Teams

Education:

  • Master’s degree (computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline) and 10 years of prior relevant experience
  • Ten (10) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education (20 years total)

Clearance: 

  • The ability to pass a Tier 2/Modest Background Investigation 

Location:

  • Remote, USA
  • Monday - Friday (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM CST)

Pay Range:

  • The pay for this position ranges from $42,730 to $98,500
  • The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location
  • Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as bonuses
